5 simple tips to add to your morning to get your day going as a SAHM.

I know getting your day started as a SAHM is hard. You’re sleep deprived, over stimulated, tired, and just need that extra 30 minutes of sleep. For me, getting up even just 30 minutes before my kids makes a night-and-day difference. Don’t get me wrong — I love my sleep — but being able to get yourself together mentally, physically, and spiritually helps start the day in the right direction and leads to a happier, more peaceful home overall.

1. Get yourself ready for the day

I can’t begin to tell you how much of a difference this makes for me. There’s just something about getting yourself put together — brushing your teeth, tidying your hair, washing your face, and putting on fresh clothes — that can completely shift your mindset. As the saying goes, “look good, feel good.”

When I stay in pajamas all day and immediately jump into taking care of everyone else before taking a few moments for myself, I notice I feel more overwhelmed and unmotivated. But when I take even a short amount of time to care for myself first, I feel more prepared for the day ahead, more patient, more productive, and honestly just happier overall.

2. Read your Bible

Personally, I can’t start my day without being filled spiritually. Now, does that mean I do it every single day, or that the day never gets away from me and I always end up reading my Bible? No. I’m an imperfect human. I would love to read my Bible every morning, but sometimes being spiritually filled looks different.

Sometimes it looks like quiet time with the Lord. Sometimes it’s a worship session in the car, and other times it’s simply talking with like-minded believers who encourage and uplift me in my faith.

When I do read my Bible in the mornings before my kids wake up, I love to grab my coffee and spend that quiet time reading. I’ve found that The Bible Recap on Spotify and the Bible App really help me stay consistent because I don’t have to wonder what I should read each day. After reading the designated chapters, there’s also a short podcast episode that explains what I just read and helps me better understand God’s Word.

3. Make yourself Breakfast

Now, I am extremely bad at this one, but it’s something I know I need to fix and get better at — and honestly, it’s a pretty obvious one. How can you expect your body not to feel tired when you’re giving it little to no fuel to nourish yourself?

Trying to get around 30g of protein per meal is ideal, but I know that sometimes, as a mom, it just doesn’t happen unless you intentionally make yourself prioritize it. It’s so easy to feed everyone else and forget about yourself.

My personal favorite easy breakfast to get myself fueled and ready for the day is a protein smoothie with some sourdough toast. I love making protein smoothies because they’re simple, quick, and actually keep me full. All I do is add one scoop of whatever protein powder I like, one frozen banana, and 8 oz of milk. It’s that simple, and honestly, it tastes just like a banana milkshake.

I’ve noticed that when I actually eat a balanced breakfast and prioritize protein, I have so much more energy, feel less irritable, and don’t crash halfway through the morning. Taking care of yourself may seem small, but it truly affects how you show up for your family and yourself throughout the day.

4. Tidy up

Having a clean slate in the morning before all the chaos of the day arrives is just as important as anything else. It can be the small, simple things — tidying your bed, putting away the toaster from breakfast, washing that one dish in the sink (because we both know the dishes will pile up later), or putting away your skincare products after getting ready.

I’ve found that taking just 10–15 minutes to reset a few spaces in the morning helps my home feel calmer and more manageable throughout the day. When I wake up to clutter or leave small messes sitting around, I feel more overwhelmed before the day has even really started.

Some simple things that help me feel more organized are:

  • Making the bed
  • Opening the blinds or windows for natural light
  • Starting a load of laundry early
  • Wiping down the kitchen counters
  • Emptying the dishwasher first thing in the morning
  • Putting away things as I use them instead of letting them pile up
  • Doing a quick toy pickup before the day gets busy

5. Get some fresh air

Whether you just sit on the porch with your Bible and coffee, feed the farm animals, gather the eggs, or prioritize a walk outside with the kids after breakfast, getting outside in God’s creation and breathing in some fresh air really helps calm my mind and build gratitude for the day ahead. I’ve noticed it also helps my kids get a good start to their day as well.

It helps regulate your mood. Natural light signals your brain to wake up more fully, which can improve alertness and help balance your circadian rhythm. That can make you feel more awake during the day and sleep better at night.

It reduces stress. Fresh air, open space, and natural surroundings tend to lower stress levels and calm your nervous system. Even just a few minutes outside can help you feel less mentally “cluttered.

In conclusion

Whether you implement all of these tips into your morning, just one of them, or even none of them, I hope this blog post has inspired you to seize the day the Lord has made. You can do that in the simplest ways—start small and build those habits. Mama, you’ve got this!
